Editing Course & Module Progress for a Student

There may be times where an Admin wishes to adjust the progress of a course for a student, and with our Edit Progress feature, Admins will be able to change the status of a course and modules manually. For example, this can be helpful in instances where perhaps a student didn't complete a module for whatever reason yet the Admin has decided to mark it as complete so the student can proceed through the course, or a student completed a course or module content outside of AOM and the Admin needs to adjust the status by hand. Admins will be able to mark individual modules as either Not Started, In Progress, or Completed, and will also be able to adjust the overall course progress status as well.

In this article, we will be going over how to adjust the status of individual modules and a course. Please note that this is a new feature that may not be available to legacy users--please contact support if you have further questions about the availability of the Edit Progress feature.

While course progress can be updated as well as module statuses, the course status needs to match up to the progress of the modules. With that in mind, let's go through how edit the course or module progress for a student, follow these steps:

  1. From the Admin Dashboard, select Courses, then All Courses.
  2. Navigate to the course that you wish to edit progress for and click the three-dot action menu and opt to Manage Courses
  3. Find the student you wish to adjust progress for, and click the three-dot action menu. Opt to Edit Progress

Note: This can also be accessed by going to to Users>All Users. Find the user you want to edit progress for, and click the three-dot action menu. Select Manage Courses. Then click the three-dot action menu to the right of the course you want to edit progress for, and choose View Progress. Click Edit Progress in the upper right.

  4. Click Edit next to the module that you want to adjust the status for to expand the Edit menu
  5. From the dropdown menu, choose if you would like the module status to be Not Started, In Progress, or Completed

Note that the course status is tied to the status of the modules within the course. For example, a course as a whole cannot be marked as completed if there are modules that are not completed as all the information needs to line up. A course can only be marked as completed once all the modules have been marked as complete, and have the Start Date, Completion Date and Last Accessed Date added. Module progress will need to be edited along with the course status.
  6. If you are adjusting the module to be In Progress:
    1. The Start Date is required
    2. The Last Accessed Date is required
    3. You may choose to enter a percentage for how much of the module has been completed
    4. Note that there are additional statuses for Assignment and for certain Discussion modules. Assignment and Discussion modules can also be marked as Submitted. Submitted will not be an option for Discussion modules that are not set to be evaluated. See below for more details on marking these two modules as Completed.
  7. If you are adjusting the module to be Completed:
    1. The Start Date is required
    2. The Completion Date is required
    3. The Last Accessed Date is required
    4. If you are marking a Discussion or Assignment module as completed, you will need to enter the marks the student received
    5. If you are marking a quiz module as completed, you will need to enter the grade the student received. Note that when viewing the scorecard for the quiz results on the View Progress page, the questions will be randomly assigned as correct/incorrect.

If the quiz module has a minimum passing percentage:
      1. You will also see the option to mark the quiz as Failed. In this case, you will not be able to enter a score manually, but will still need to enter the Start Date, Completion Date and Last Accessed Date.
      2. If you are marking it as complete and not failed, the marks entered will need to be higher than the minimum passing percentage.
      3. You will see what the minimum passing percentage is called out:
  8. Now you will need to adjust the course status depending on what changes you have made to the modules. At the top of the page, select the course status and enter the Start Date, Completion Date (if course is completed), Expiration Date (optional) and Last Accessed Date.
    1. If the course was marked as Not Started, and some modules were adjusted to be In Progress or Completed, you will need to adjust the status of the course to be In Progress, and will need to set a Start Date for the course.
    2. If all the modules were marked as completed, you will mark the course as completed, and will also need to enter a Start Date and Completion Date for the course.
  9. Once all the modules necessary have been adjusted, and the overall course status has also been adjusted accordingly, click Update Progress to save your changes
